Celebrities: Human or not?

I gots a question for you. when you talk about your favorite artist be it a movie actor/actress, singer, painter, etc. do you refer to that person as a star or as an actual person?

Today while chatting online with some pals we came upon the discussion of who our favorite celebrity is. being part of an odd group i encountered reasonable answers such as Jimmy Hendrix, Adam West, and the notorious Al Capone, yet the answer which seemed the most interesting was my friend Shapiro-sama's "Deadmau5." while the others answered in way which showed struggle and deep thought, Shapiro's response was nearly automatic.
"why?" i asked him nearly drilling a hole through my computer with my curiosity. he just shrugged and said "whats not to like about a musical god such as himself?" to me, the response opened a deep thought in my head. why is it that my friend, along with nearly half of the electronic loving community refer to Deadmau5 as a living entity? why do we refer to him as a him? in general why do we refer to celebrities as untouchable gods? in my frantic search for a semi-acceptable answer i asked Shapiro "Do you like Joel Zimmerman?
He sent me a puzzled "O.o You mean Deadmau5?" our conversation went as follows:

D1G1: "No, i mean the actual Joel Zimmerman"
SHAPIRO: "oh.... well.... i don't know?"
D1G1: ".____. ur kidding right?"
SHAPIRO: "well its true. i have no idea."

It's not his lack of knowledge of Joel Zimmerman but the fact that he doesn't know the person beyond Deadmau5. is this what fame does to a person? are we forced to be conformed with knowing only Guy Manuel or Tom? not knowing their dreams as children or their hopes for the future?
I'm glad that Joel is one of the few people i met before meeting their Celebrity side. to be honest, i stumbled upon Deadmau5's blog before even meeting his music. its people like Joel that make celebrities like Jonny Depp or Gwen Stefani reachable. they help promote less boundaries between  people and their celebritized sides. Thank you Joel, thank you too John Christopher Depp. You guys are awesome.
